How to Release 9 Blessings in Your Life {Blessing #3}

__________________________________________________________

"Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth."
Matthew 5:5

Blessing #3: we will inherit the earth.

To Release This Blessing:   First we need to understand what it means to be meek.  Meek means a gentleness of spirit.  This translates as a dependency on Jesus verses asserting our own ways above God’s ways.
_________________________________________________________________________

This one of the blessings given to Abraham in Genesis and now belongs as a blessing for every follower of Jesus.  To inherit the earth is to embrace meekness resulting in authority and dominion over it.

A Recipe for Revival in 7 Steps

God’s people are searching for revival, but all we need to do is start by looking at our own lives.

Revival comes from the root word revive.

Revive:  to return to consciousness or life, become active or flourishing again

Has your walk with Jesus become routine, stale, or shallow?  Do you hunger for more knowledge regarding who God is?  Do you want to go deeper into truth so that you become refined? Then follow this ancient recipe which is from Nehemiah chapter 9, and it will lead you down a personal path of revival.

Ingredients Needed:
A heart that is committed to Jesus
Desire to change

Step 1 -Prepare your heart for repentance
Step 2 -Begin with fasting
Step 3 -Choose to separate yourself from on-going sinful behavior
Step 4 -Confess to God personal sins and sins of generations past
Step 5 -Read the Bible
Step 6 -Worship the Lord
Step 7 -Close with standing up and praising the
Lord

Brave

When your answer is “I feel the Lord is calling me on in a new direction (a new place) (new relationship) (fill in the blank__________)” why isn’t that enough?

We all have journeyed to a place throughout our lives where we’ve felt this tug in our spirits to do something new.

Whether this is changing jobs, changing who we spend our time with, changing where we live, changing churches, and changing ministries and more!

When asked, “Why” I’m choosing a new direction I tend to hesitate.

Can I trust that this person will support my vision?

Are they going to be critical?

Will they even “get it?”

Often, I give a much simpler answer to protect myself from what the person who is asking may or may not say.

Am I really protecting myself?

The truth is, they may not understand my “why” and they may feel all sorts of emotions regarding my “why” but at the same time it’s not fair play either.

Everyone deserves a truthful answer no matter if they fully understand the “why” behind it all.

AND it will have to be enough.

I’ll stand strong and do my part.

I’ll bravely tell my “why”.

In Genesis 12 Abram was called by God to a new place

Where is God calling you that will take courage?

7 Days to Wait

Saul’s demise as king over Israel begins in 1 Samuel chapter 13 when he sinned against the Lord.

He was deep in battle and was waiting for a word from the Lord that they were blessed with favor in battle against their enemies.

He was given a word to wait seven days and then the prophet Samuel would show up.

Saul waited the seven days and when he didn’t see Samuel, he decided to make an offering to the Lord in order to seek the Lord’s favor without Samuel.
(This wasn’t the role of the king, but of the prophet and priest to perform these inquiries.)

Saul was tired of waiting, fearful and disobedient to the word of the Lord.

Feeling compelled to do something when you’re tired of waiting on God isn’t a good time to take action.

A while later, at that same battle location, in chapter 14, the men of Israel were starting to hide from their enemies, seeing that they were vastly outnumbered and out weaponized.

A small victory at one of the enemy’s outposts by Saul’s son Jonathan and his armor-bearer encouraged the men of Israel.

Saul went to inquire of the Lord for direction and favor and as the priest was about to do so, Saul stopped him.

He could hear the action of war in the near distance and decided to assemble his men for battle without receiving confirmation from the Lord.

Twice Saul decided he had had enough of waiting for the Lord’s approval.

He was slowly becoming consumed with fear.

God gives Saul another opportunity to redeem himself in the sight of the Lord.

Through Samuel, he is given a mission with very specific instructions in chapter 15.  He does do some of what the Lord instructed him to do but not all.  He decidedly disobeyed the Lord in rebellion toward him almost as if he just didn’t care anymore.

He then sets up a monument in another town in his own honor and there forth refers to the Lord as “the Lord your God” when speaking to Samuel.

Saul’s heart has grown hard toward the Lord and decidedly turned away; rejecting him as his God.

This grieved the Lord.

Saul decides to confess to Samuel that he “was afraid of the people and so I gave into them” (1 Samuel 15:24) This excuse is not enough to win back the favor of God as Saul continues to refer to the Lord as “the Lord your God” separating himself as someone who no longer follows God himself.

The Lord then searches for another who will reign as king that will love him and not turn away, who will follow all his instructions.

The Lord found David.

The Lord still searches for those who will follow him and not turn away.

What will you choose?

7 Ways to be Consistent

1.      Determination. Set your mind on the fact that you will do this activity no matter what tries to get in your way.

All this I tested by wisdom and I said,
“I am determined to be wise”... Ecclesiastes 7:23

2.      Write it down.  Make a list of what you want to accomplish and how often you want to accomplish it.

But the noble make noble plans, and by noble

deeds they stand.  Isaiah 32:8

3.      Verbalize it.  Speak out positive words to yourself about how you can and will achieve your goals.

So shall my word be that goes out from my

mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it

shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall

succeed in the thing for which I sent it. Isaiah

55:11

4.      Do it! When you wake up in the morning start to take action on your goals. Don’t wait for time to slip away.

We do not want you to become lazy, but to

imitate those who through faith and patience

inherit what has been promised. Hebrews 6:12

5.      Talk about it. Tell others about your goals and surround yourself with people who want you to succeed.

Therefore encourage one another and build each

other up, just as in fact you are doing.

1Thessalonians 5:11

6.      Pray. Daily pray over yourself and the tasks that you are trying to accomplish. Invite God to walk with you down this path.

Rejoice always,  pray continually, give thanks in

all circumstances;for this is God’s will for you in

Christ Jesus. 1Thessalonians 5:16-18

7.      Be prepared. Get your mind, your will and your emotions ready to do it all over again the next day.

Those who live according to the flesh have their mind

set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in

accordance with the Spirit have their minds set

on what the Spirit desires.  Romans 8:5

Post-Partum Depression & Spinning Plates {Part 2}

I cried out to Jesus for help.  He must have heard my cry, but it still felt impossible to sense his presence at all.

All along this journey I had been spinning plates; trying to keep up appearances of the perfect mother and wife.

It just all came crashing down so suddenly.  Then it happened.  I realized that I had fallen down the rabbit hole.

I wanted out so desperately and as I cried out to God daily with my baby in arms and my toddler hanging on my knee I wondered if God could hear me at all.

I was so far down.  So very far down that hole.  Was I going to be able to come back?

At the urging of my husband I went to the Doctor and he gave me several months supply of samples of anti-depressants.

I was on those pills for two months.  I didn’t cry, rage, or have suicidal thoughts but I also didn’t laugh, smile, and feel…anything.  I felt numb.

Then one day I just decided that I couldn’t live like that anymore.  I didn’t want to feel depressed but I also wanted to feel again.

I stopped taking those pills cold turkey.

A week had passed and I was feeling like my old self again; the self I once was before this post-partum had taken hold of me.

I distinctly remember what happened next.  I went to change my baby’s diaper just like I had done a dozen times before.  Everything felt normal until suddenly I started to feel anger and rage.  It felt like something hot climbing up from my feet and slowly rising up my legs.

I thought for a moment why would this be happening?  I don’t want to live like this anymore!  This is NOT who I am and who I am meant to be!

I whispered the only words I knew that would hopefully give me victory.

“Get off of me in Jesus name!”

As suddenly as it had come on it had left.

I felt joy again.

I felt freedom.

I was done spinning plates.  I was done with that rabbit hole.

From that moment on, I knew there was something more that I had personally experienced.  I experienced a tool for freedom from a spiritual enemy.

A tool that is also known as deliverance.

This has been the path I’ve walked.  If you or someone you know is struggling with post-partum depression, I’d love to pray for you.

4 Ways to Start on the Path of Blessing

Blessing flowed in and out of the lives of Abraham, Isaac, and

Jacob.  Just before they were walking a path full of blessing, they all

followed the same pattern.

It’s what I call The Compass and it’s also the name of my soon to be

published weekly devotional.

Front Cover Art from Path of the Blessing:Abraham, Isaac, Jacob

The Compass consists of these 4 elements:

1.  Worship God.  Worshipping God is about exalting him above all others by approaching The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit honestly and allowing yourself to expose your heart before him humbly, resulting in glory to our God.

Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.  John 4:23

2. Inquire.  Inquiring of God is about bringing our requests to him.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.  Philippians 4:6

3. Listen. Listening to God is best accomplished when the atmosphere is full of worship and void of distraction.  Although many times God will break through the most chaotic atmosphere in the way of a thought, idea, word, someone’s name, or through visual cues to get his direction across to his creation.

My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.  John 10:27

4. Obey.  Obeying God is the most challenging aspect of The Compass.  It’s simply about surrender; surrendering our ideas, plans, and ways of living life to his plans.  It’s about living life on God’s terms and not our own, all the while applying faith.  Believing that God loves us and ultimately wants us to live out our lives to the fullest, which is only accomplished through obedience.

He replied, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.”  Luke 11:28

Transcending Earth to Heaven's Transforming Light

Romans 12:2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.  Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is –his good pleasing and perfect will.

Our thoughts, words and actions can take us places we’ve never been.  We can think, talk, and act our way into a dark place and allow our souls to dwell there or we can choose to think, talk, and act our way into the light where everything is fresh and new.  Only on mountain tops can you see the furthest vistas, the sun rise and set and what once looked like the largest obstacle now seems minute.  I want my mind to live there, on the mountaintops. But what if there was a better view?  Heaven, yes, from Heaven’s perspective, that must be the best view where even Earth finds its place amongst the stars and the planets dance in perfect harmony.

From Heaven’s view all of the worries of Earth seem but a speck on the massive scale of time of which is eternity.

From Heaven’s view, you might ask the question, what is worth holding onto and what is just sand slipping through our fingers?  The dark places still exist on earth but the light, that light that illuminates those dark places, that everlasting light from Heaven’s throne, surely there is no better vista.  I want my thoughts, words, and actions to not only live there but be propelled from there bathed in the light of my Creator, who’s transforming me from the dark places and into his glorious light.

My thoughts, words, and actions need transformation to keep me from the dark paths and places.  God’s word has the answer.  Colossians 3:1-2 Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God.  Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.  Colossians 3:10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.

It begins with setting our hearts and minds on things above.

Focusing on what is lasting and eternal verses the temporal.  To put this another way, what are we going to take with us when we die?  Those things that we can’t take are the temporal things, the sand that will continually slip through our fingers.  No matter how hard we try to grasp, those things will always evade eternity.

Once we shift our focus to the lasting and eternal, then we as believers are to choose to put on our new self which is in the process of renewal by the knowledge of God.  God’s knowledge is found in every word throughout the Bible.  Next we are to daily put on compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.  We are also to forgive each other and to put on love as a part of this daily renewal.  Colossians 3:12-14 Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.  Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another.  Forgive as the Lord forgave you.  And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.

Transformation by renewing my mind is a process and it’s a journey worth taking.  This journey will take me to new places I’ve never been.  I’ve challenged myself to focus on the transformative knowledge of God that I wrote about in this blog above.  I’m focusing on one virtue a week, meditating on that virtue and letting it sink deep into my soul and allowing it to transform my thoughts, words and actions. I’m choosing to do this until I can put on these virtues daily whilst keeping them in mind throughout my day. Will you join me?

Week 1: compassion
Week 2: kindness
Week 3: humility
Week 4: gentleness
Week 5: patience
Week 6: forgiveness
Week 7: love

What other ways, through the knowledge of God, do you renew your mind?  What are other ways you focus on things above verses the things of earth?

Generational Blessings

Exodus 20:6 But I lavish unfailing love for a thousand generations on those who love me and obey my commands. (New Living Translation)

I love this picture of four generations from Pintrest

"To understand Abrams beginnings, we have to look back at the past.  Abram, who is later called Abraham, had a relationship with God.  He is recorded as one who walked with God on several occasions.  This is one of the defining generational blessings that Abram had received from his ancestry."  Path of the Blessing: Abraham, Issac, Jacob

Pause for a moment and think about your family lineage.  Can you see how you are blessed today because someone in your past walked with God?

A Journey Begins with Vision

Let your eyes look staight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you.  Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways.  Proverbs 4:25,26

A compass is the perfect example of a tool we can apply to our lives when choosing the right path to travel in life. -Just like Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in "Path of the Blessing". These men discovered four specific ways to interact with God to discern which way was God's will for their lives.

Perspective

A view of the sky from our vacation in Maui; closest thing to Heaven.
In another blog, I had written about my friend Jesse.  Here's a link to that blog:  FAITH WALK  He’s afflicted by a disease that is trying to claim his life.  I’ve been part of a large group of family and friends that have been believing for his healing.  I do believe he will be healed and fully restored either on this side of eternity or the next.  The hardest part about this process is knowing that the door of death is involved in reaching the rest of our lives beyond this earthly existence.  I’m exercising my faith and trying with all that I have to see beyond and gain heaven’s view instead of my own time restricted earthly view.  This isn’t the first time I’ve had to stretch my faith concerning a friend who’s facing a deadly illness and I suspect it won’t be my last.

What I’m trying to overcome is my natural earthly instinct to see life’s trials and afflictions as finality and with that comes the thought of “no hope”.  I’m in process of getting my mind to grasp hold of God’s truth and to get in alignment with heaven’s perspective; that life will continue on for all of us, either in the eternal presence of our Creator in Heaven, or in eternal torment in Hell.  One path gives us hope of full restoration, including our bodies, living a life void of pain and suffering. The other path without Christ offers no hope, no freedom from pain.

All of us are eternal beings and whether we choose to believe that or not, life will continue on forever for all of us.  Ecclesiastes 3:11 …He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end. This verse clearly states how all of us feel; that we can’t even fathom the scope of eternity.  That this earthly existence is a mere speck of time compared to eternity.

Every trial and hardship we face on earth is like a drop of water in a vast ocean that never ends.

Many are facing divorce, losing their house, have lost a job, struggling with addiction, and are contending with illnesses and injury Jesus sees us within our earthly time restraints and in his compassion is with us through it all.  Job 28:24 for he views the ends of the earth and sees everything under the heavens.  Nehemiah 9:27 …But when they were oppressed they cried out to you.  From heaven you heard them, and in your great compassion you gave them deliverers, who rescued them… For us, a hardship can seem forever, but in heaven’s perspective it’s just a fleeting moment.  I remember when my first child was born, and that first year was so hard.  My husband and I wondered if we would ever be able to sleep again, eat a meal on time, or have time for ourselves.  It seemed like a very long year.  Now that same child is 15 yrs. old and taking Driver’s Education.  Where did the time go?  What I perceived at the time was an unending season of hardship turned out to be such a small amount of time in my life.  Perspective.

Whether you’re hardship is illness, finances, loss of marriage, loss of a child there is HOPE.  We have an eternal hope through Jesus Christ.  This time spent here is nothing compared to the joyous future we are heading towards if you are in relationship with Jesus Christ.  Are you in need of hope today?  If you want to experience the hope of eternity then choose to be a follower of Jesus.

Pray this prayer with me, it’s not so much the words as it is your heart attitude.

Lord Jesus, thank you for dying for me, forgive me for my sins, wash me clean.  I choose a new path now, to follow you all the days of my life, and to honor your name.  In Jesus name I pray, Amen.

If you’ve just prayed that prayer, congratulations!  Your next step will be to find a local church to encourage you in your relationship with Jesus.  Now that you are a part of God’s kingdom, you too can begin to gain a heavenly perspective to help you navigate life’s hardships.

Brand New Day

I hear the song of those who have loved and then fallen away.

Love lost because the relationship was more work than they had counted on, so they ran away.

Hearing songs of sadness, regret, pain.

Longing to be back in relationship again, hearts torn.

Will they go back to their true love?  Can they go back?

A time full of forgiveness embracing Loves kiss.  Is that all in the past?

Regret for leaving the way they did, ignoring First Love’s voice calling them back.

Wiped away is the sorrow, wiped away is the shame.

Love is waiting to embrace them again.

Running in fields of barley golden sunlight streaming down.

Time has been rewound!

Restoration, renewal it’s hard to believe.

Love lost has been found just by turning around.

“Stand up all you lovers in the world.  It’s the starting of a brand new day!”(a)
